BAKABU at the KinderKunstLabor

Children’s Art Lab

“Look, that big wooden house is the Children’s Art Lab. It’s a really great place where kids can express their creativity.” Lups and the friends from Singeland had reached Altoona Park after a long walk. “Excellent!” exclaims Mimi Lou. “We’re all artists too. Bakabu is a fantastic whistler, I can craft the best beacons in all of Singeland, and Charlie Gru is…” “AAAHHH!” screams the clay pigeon in panic, pointing at something that looks like a wild animal. “M-M-Monster… uh, giant monster!” “Don’t worry,” says Lups. “It’s just a sculpture, a puma.” “What’s a puma doing in St. Pölten?” wonders Bakabu. “No problem,” croaks Mimi Lou. “A few whacks with my hammer, and presto, the puma will become the wolf Lupolderich.” “No, don’t!” warns Lups, placing his paw over the sculpture. But once a firecracker frog starts swinging, there’s no stopping her. Unfortunately, Lups doesn’t move his paw fast enough. The hammer lands squarely on his paw… “AAAUUUUUUUUU!” echoes through all of St. Pölten. But Bakabu, Charlie Gru, and Mimi Lou don’t see a face twisted in pain. Instead, they see a pair of joyful, glowing wolf eyes. “Did you hear that?” asks Lups. “That was… that was… a HOWL!” “And what a howl!” the three friends cheer. “Those were the last notes we needed. Now the wolf song is finally complete.“

Full Moon in Singeland

Lups is the happiest wolf in all of St. Pölten, all of Lower Austria, and maybe even the whole world. But then something comes to mind: “Say, why were you searching for the wolf song in the first place?” “Oh yeah, we never told you!” Bakabu slaps his forehead. “There’s going to be a full moon soon in Singeland…” “Then the wolves will start their amazing howling songs,” adds Mimi Lou. “E-E-Exactly… eerily b-beautiful,” stammers Charlie Gru. “And you absolutely have to come with us!” Bakabu exclaims happily. The wolf doesn’t need to be asked twice. Full of joy, he accompanies the friends to Singeland. There, he meets Ukuleila, Jack Embalo, Uncle Cornett, and Anton Kammerton. Together with many wolves, the adventurers celebrate the most wonderful full moon festival with the greatest wolf song Singeland has ever heard.

New Friends and Ideas

“Hey, why don’t you stay with us in Singeland?” Bakabu asks his new friend Lups. “That’s very kind of you,” replies the wolf. “But I think I still have something to do. You see, all my ancestors from the album did something great for St. Pölten that people still remember today…” “And you want to do something like that too, right?” asks Bakabu. “Exactly,” says Lups, nodding. “But that’s pretty difficult, isn’t it?” murmurs Mimi Lou. “Well,” Lups responds, “During that amazing tour with you all, I had an idea…” “Tell us!” urge Bakabu, Charlie Gru, and Mimi Lou. “I want to create an app that can control all the bells in the Rothaus Tower. Once I’ve done that, I can visit you again…” “That’s a fantastic idea!” says Mimi Lou, and Charlie Gru beams with joy. Bakabu can’t wait to return and discover something new. There are always great places and things to explore on Earth—and great songs. And who knows… maybe one day there will even be a statue of an earworm. After all, it was an earworm that rediscovered the long-lost song.”

About KinderKunstLabor St. Pölten

The new exhibition centre for contemporary art is aimed at a young audience. In addition to changing exhibitions, open workshops, performances and tours invite visitors to experience art in a new way. The entire spectrum of current artistic production is presented, from video art, photography and painting, sculpture, sound art, installation and performance to works with scientific connotations.

A children's library enriches the museum's offerings with illustration, literature and film. At the same time, an area specifically for young children up to the age of six, an interactive textile installation, an in-house café and the surrounding sculpture park offer all age groups a place to interact in an open and artistic environment.
